An outstanding surgeon, he explained what issues I had with my back and what the best course of action was.
The results of the operation have been far better than I expected and considering that I have had vertebrae fused in my neck the restriction of movement is hardly noticeable,
more importantly day on day I'm regaining strength in my arms and my balance back its nice to be able to walk with out falling over.

6 weeks ago I had an L4/5 lumbar decompression and discectomy, which was a complete success and removed all traces of Sciatica which had plagued me for about two years. However I am still experiencing great pain in my right hip, down to my knee, which is not alleviated by 8 Tramadol 6 Iboprufen and Paracetamol taken daily; and have been waiting for a replacement hip was for some considerable time. When asked, I explained to Mr Bhatia that I was still on the waiting list. He told me he would write to the surgeon that day to ask that I be seen as soon as possible. Now it may be coincidence but today, I had a call from the surgeons secretary offering me the 23rd September as a date for my hip replacement.
Whether Mr Bhatia had anything to do with this I honestly don't know. All I know is although Mr Bhatia is an extremely busy man, it was an absolute pleasure to engage with someone who listened, treated me with kindness, and inspired the utmost confidences, in his approach and suggestions for my future well being.
Needless to say should the need arise, I would pray that Mr Bhatia will again be my surgeon.

Mr Bhatia is straight talking and hides nothing from you,he will give you the pros/cons to surgery ...very professional and excellent consultant/surgeon.

I was included in all discussions relating to my care both pre and post op. Every aspect was explained clearly and patiently and to be able to see and have explained scans and X-rays was excellent.
The surgeon and anaesthetist were highly professional and absolutely charming. I felt safe and had complete confidence in their care.
I have nothing but the greatest respect for this brilliant and highly skilled surgeon.

Robin Bhatia MA PhD FRCS(SN) is a Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon practicing at The Great Western Hospital and the Ridgeway BMI Hospital, with an Honorary Consultant contract at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. His practice is devoted to the management of spinal problems.
Mr Bhatia read medicine at Exeter College in The University of Oxford, and then at Guys, Kings and St Thomas' Medical Schools in London. He qualified in medicine in 2000, sub-specialised in Neurosurgery and received a Doctorate in Clinical Neurosciences in 2010. He obtained the Neurosurgical Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2011.
He undertook the North London Complex Spinal Fellowship in The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore in 2011-2012.
His specialist interests include: lumbar and cervical spine degenerative disease causing chronic back and neck pain; spinal cord and nerve root decompression; spinal (nerve root/epidural and facet joint) injection therapy; intervertebral disc disease; inflammatory and infective spinal pathologies; spinal fractures/instability; spondylolisthesis; failed back syndrome and revision surgery; intradural pathology; adult scoliosis/kyphosis and spinal tumours.
Mr Bhatia is also the Clinical Governance Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics at The Great Western Hospital; and Chair of the Spinal Multidisciplinary Team which convenes regularly to discuss complex cases. Mr Bhatia has a busy spinal practice, but is devoted to his work and helping his patients.
Outside of work, he enjoys playing sport and being with his family. When allowed, he likes watching the snooker and darts!
